Everyone is getting older, but that doesn’t mean we have to stop discovering new things, exploring new places, and working toward physical and mental wellness! The Curious Keen-Agers series captures energizing and engaging topics and experiences geared toward adults aged 55 and over. These programs are easy to sign up for, and all equipment is provided. All you have to do is register – Stark Parks will take care of the rest. Learn something new, meet live wildlife, share your stories, move your body, and so much more as you experience being a keen-ager with Stark Parks!

Hike for the Health of it! January 27, 2020 from 10 a.m. to noon at the Lake Ave. Trailhead on the Towpath Trail (135 Lake Ave. Massillon, 44647)

Are you feeling bogged down by cabin fever? We still have a lot of winter to get through so let’s hike it out! Join Stark Parks on a steady paced 3 mile walk down a flat, limestone trail. Meet and end at Lake Ave. Feel free to stay after and chat and warm up over a cup of coffee.

Chair Yoga is a great way to increase strength and flexibility without the pressure of moving up and down on a yoga mat. We invite you to try it out and join us for this gentle practice. All equipment is provided. There is a cost of $5 per participant that will be collected at the door.

Keen-agers – here’s your chance to learn archery! Join us for a of recreational target shooting with a bow and arrow. You will learn about the equipment, proper shooting technique, and safety before spending the evening working on your skills. All equipment is provided.

Everyone loves Field Trip Day! Bring a sack lunch and start out the day learning about animals living at the center, enjoy lunch time, and then take a short hike to end our time together. Please wear comfortable clothes and dress for the weather.

Do you remember the magic of “Show and Tell” from grade school?  Remember the enjoyment you got showing your class some prized possession and telling them all about what made it special? Here’s your chance to do it again! Bring an item (or two) near and dear to your heart and tell us the story behind it. Maybe it’s something from a childhood memory. Maybe it’s an uncommon or antiquated item that many people won’t even recognize today. You decide! We will also play a few games to spark your memory of events from the past. Light refreshments will be served. A minimum of six registered participants is required for this program to be held. Absolutely no weapons or adult material of any kind will be allowed at this program.

Have you ever wondered what that animal or plant is? With a smartphone the answer is right at your fingertips! We will talk about some of the apps that exist to help identify animals and plants. Then, we will take a short hike and put our new skills to the test.

Crafty Keen-Agers –

April 16, 2020 from 6:30 to 8 p.m. at the Exploration Gateway at Sippo Lake Park-North (5712 12th St. NW Canton, 44708)

Get creative in this judgment free craft zone. Join other keen-agers for the chance to chat while you create a gorgeous handmade wreath to decorate your door or your wall. You have the choice of making a burlap wreath or a fabric rag wreath. Both can be personalized with color and style. All materials and instruction will be provided, but if you have a particular color or colors of fabric that you would like for the rag wreath bring about 2 yards of your fabric with you. The cost is $10 per person.
