Comments Requested for Minerva Park Bridge Replacement and Trail Improvements
STA-Stark Parks Minerva Bridge (PID 114032)
June 18, 2024–Ohio Department of Transportation (ODOT) and the Stark County Park District are proposing a project to replace the existing Minerva Municipal Park pedestrian bridge over Sandy Creek in the Village of Minerva, Stark County, Ohio. The purpose of this project is to fix the bridge that is deteriorating based on the annual bridge inspection. The proposed bridge is a prefabricated truss structure on reinforced concrete abutments. Additional improvements include approach trail work to meet ADA standards and drainage. This project is the first piece of the overall Minerva Connector Trail project between Minerva High School and the Nickel Plate Trail.
Environmental studies are ongoing; however, no impacts are anticipated. No new right-of-way is anticipated to be needed. All work will be completed within the Minerva Municipal Park, under the existing partnership agreement between Stark County Park District and the Village of Minerva. Construction is currently scheduled to begin Summer of 2025 and expected to last seventeen months.
During construction, the southernmost Minerva Municipal Park pedestrian bridge and a portion of Minerva Connector Trail will be closed for all pedestrian and bicycle traffic for a period of time that is anticipated to last for no longer than 12 months. The official detour for this closure will utilize the pedestrian bridge on the north side of the park and the sidewalk route along US Route 30/SR 183 (Lincoln Highway) on the south end of the park. Construction and closure/detour information will also be posted on this website, www.StarkParks.com, prior to the start of construction activities.
