Deer Creek Reservoir
Immerse yourself in nature as you explore this 334-acre reservoir nestled among nearly 1,000 acres of forest. Tucked in the northeast corner of Stark County, Deer Creek Reservoir is a rustic oasis for fishing, boating, kayaking, bird watching, and picnicking. Impressive trees create a canopy over popular fishing nooks and a spacious picnic area right on the water. A boat launch for boats (10 hp limit) with electric motors only and both a shoreline kayak launch and adaptive kayak launch are located just off the main parking lot. Canoes and stand-up paddleboards are welcome. Portable restrooms are located in the parking lot.
Bring your bike or hiking boots because the park also serves as a trailhead for the Mahoning Valley Trail that travels over the spillway to Berlin Reservoir along Greenbower St. and Rockhill Ave. before running parallel to the Mahoning River toward downtown Alliance. A boardwalk travels under Rt. 225 before arriving at Gaskill St. At the next crossing (Vine St.), the Mahoning Valley Trail meets the Iron Horse Trail and follows portions of the former railroad route through the City of Alliance and University of Mount Union.
You may catch sight of bald eagles, osprey, and migrating waterfowl along the shore, or white-tailed deer and coyote in the forested areas surrounding the reservoir.
Fishing is permitted along the shoreline areas at both the main park entrance and the dropdown lot just west on Price St. There is also access using a small parking lot Greenbower St. and Rt. 183 for hunting and fishing.
