Canal Fulton Water Trailhead
Project Overview
Stark Parks is hoping to add a new water trailhead along the Tuscarawas River in the city of Canal Fulton located at 232 Market St W through an ODNR NatureWorks grant. The trailhead will feature a parking lot, kiosk, signage, and a stone geocell stabilized launch/ramp into the river.
The Tuscarawas River Trail in Stark County currently has two public launch sites, Craig Pittman and Lake Avenue Trail heads both of which parallel the Towpath Trail. This proposed site, located in Canal Fulton would be the first public water trail head site in the northern portion of the county.
Stark Parks has been reviewing public launch site options that make ideal paddling distances available to the public within Stark County. This would be the first of several water trail launch sites that Stark Parks intends develop to meet the needs of the increasing demand for public water recreational access and further develop one of the largest water trail systems in the state of Ohio.
Funding Breakdown
Stark Parks is requesting $42,000 from ODNR with a match of $7,000 provided by the Friends of Stark Parks, $4,500 in labor from Stark Parks and an additional pending application to the Rotary Club of Canal Fulton in the amount of $6,500. The estimated total project cost is $60,000.
