Rain, thunderstorms, and flooding can be hard on trails. Visitors are encouraged to check for updates before their visit and to follow all posted trail and parking area closing signs. For safety reasons, trails are closed to all users while trail crews are using equipment to complete repairs and maintenance. The following list reflects the most up to date trail closings and construction projects as of Oct. 6, 2026. Expect rough conditions after any flooding or storms.

Congressman Ralph Regula Towpath Trail

Status Alert: Trail Closures near Downtown Massillon

1.  The Jacob Coxey bridge from the Towpath Trail to downtown Massillon will be closed while a inspection contractor completes a review.  The closure will last several weeks.  

2.  A trail closure on weekdays from 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. will close access to the Towpath Trail between Cherry St. and Tremont Ave. through mid October 2026 near downtown Massillon as well.  

3.  ODOT will be doing tree trimming on Oct. 8, 2026 for approximately 2 days near Rt. 241.  Please follow all directions or signage from the equipment operators and work crews.  

Fry Family Park

Status Alert: Deer Archery Season

Deer Archery Season is now underway and bow hunters may be present in areas of the park. Trails remain open during hunting. Please wear bright clothing while on the trails.

Hoover Trail

Status Alert: Trail Closed Between 10th St. and 7th St. (North Canton Hoover High School area)

A school construction project has closed several sections of the Hoover Trail near Hoover High School until further notice.  These include between 10th and 7th St. and south of 7th St. to Taft Ave.  A marked trail detour using neighborhood sidewalks is posted.

Status Alert: 100 Years at the Hollow Fundraising Campaign and Hunting Season

Deer Archery Season is now underway and bow hunters are present in areas of the park. Trails remain open during hunting. Please wear bright clothing while hiking, mountain biking, and horseback riding in the park.

Walborn Reservoir

Status Alert: 2026-27 Hunting Seasons

Please wear bright clothing and use caution while hiking, horseback riding, or boating in the park as several hunting seasons run through the fall and winter season.  The hunting area between Marlboro Ave. and Allen Dr. that also borders Osborne Ave. is once again open for the deer archery season beginning Sept. 26, 2026 to Feb. 7, 2027.  Parking is off of Allen Dr. only.

Waterfowl gun hunting at designated areas around Deer Creek and Walborn Reservoirs during the fall and winter is by advance permit.  Canada goose only season continues as open hunting from sites from Jan. 11 to Feb. 15, 2027, without a permit.
