Rain, thunderstorms, and flooding can be hard on trails. Visitors are encouraged to check for updates before their visit and to follow all posted trail and parking area closing signs. For safety reasons, trails are closed to all users while trail crews are using equipment to complete repairs and maintenance. The following list reflects the most up to date trail closings and construction projects as of Jan. 7, 2026. Expect rough conditions after any flooding or storms.

Status Alert: Only Class 1 and 2 E-Bikes are Permitted on Stark Parks trails. 

Congressman Ralph Regula Towpath Trail

Status Alert: Hunting Seasons in Progress

Mowing by a utility contractor will take place in December near Riverland Ave.  Equipment may be close to the trail. Please be aware that hunting may be permitted on property close to the trail.  Trails remain open during hunting. Please wear bright clothing while hiking, biking, or horseback riding.

Deer Creek Reservoir

Status Alert: Hunting Seasons in Progress

Several hunting seasons are now underway. Trails remain open during hunting. Please wear bright clothing while hiking and biking the Mahoning Valley Trail. Stark Parks issues permits to allow waterfowl hunting at designated areas around Deer Creek and Walborn Reservoirs during the fall and winter.

Hoover Trail

Status Alert: Trail Closed Between 10th St. and 7th St. (North Canton Hoover High School area)

A school construction project has closed several sections of the Hoover Trail near Hoover High School until further notice.  These include between 10th and 7th St., a second closure south of 7th St. will also close the trail between 7th and Taft Ave.

Petros Lake Park

Status Alert: Restroom Project Underway

Jan. 5:  A new restroom is now under construction near the north entrance. During construction, sections of the Loop Trail in this area may be closed at times.  Please follow all posted signs and barricades for your safety.

Quail Hollow Park

Status Alert: Hunting Seasons in Progress and 100 Years at the Hollow Fundraising Campaign

Fall and Winter 2025-26: Deer Archery Season bow hunters may be present in the park.  Trails remain open during hunting. Please wear bright clothing while hiking, mountain biking, and horseback riding in the park.  

The Mountain Bike Trail now has a daily directional pattern with a sign at the Trailhead.  Bikers travel left (clockwise) on Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturdays and travel right (counter clockwise) on Monday, Wednesday, Friday, and Sundays. Hikers should walk in the opposite direction.  

Please do not ride the trail after heavy rains or snow melts.  The trail surface will be soft and conditions will be muddy and require repairs.

Sandy Valley Trail

Status Alert: Trail Closed east of Greer Ave. 

Nov. 24: The Sandy Valley Trail will be closed east of Greer Ave. for at least 30 days as part of a project being completed by the landowner.

Tam O'Shanter Park

Status Alert: New routes and trail surfaces in progress. 

Updated trail routes and surface types have been installed.  The current map does not match the actual trail routes and loops exactly.  

Walborn Reservoir

Status Alert: Hunting Seasons in Progress

Several hunting seasons are now underway. Trails remain open during hunting. Please wear bright clothing while hiking or horseback riding. Stark Parks issues permits to allow waterfowl hunting at designated areas around Deer Creek and Walborn Reservoirs during the fall and winter. Please note that the Bingham Property located west of Marlboro Ave. and north of Allen Dr. that has previously allowed hunting will not be an open hunting area in 2025-26 as construction and restoration are still in progress.

West Branch Trail

Status Alert: Utility Project near Trail south of 12th St.

Utility work near the trail between 12th St. and 7th St. in Waterworks Park will be happening during the winter.  Please follow any instructions or detours marked with signage.  

Wildlife Conservation Center

Status Alert: Wildlife Center at Capacity

Dec. 11, 2025: The Wildlife Conservation Center is at capacity and cannot accept new wildlife intakes until further notice.
